Re: YLOD 40gb

[ Edited ]

yui you are correct. i had YLOD two weeks ago on my birthday mega :-(

mine is a phat 60GB that i have had for a year after buying approved second hand. it got very hot, then shutdown and YLOD. since then i have done what some people think is a bad idea - the gilsky fix.... but in addition to this i have done a fan mod here:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300463415241&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

its expensive for a pair of Potentiometers, but it worked and now i have a cool PS3 that sounds like an aircraft. im hoping it wont YLOD again as everyone else is. i hope that the additional preventative measures i have taken will make it a permanent. im not a systems geek but i do have basic knowledge of soldering and electronics. i wasnt comfortable doing this modifying and reflowing, however i was willing to try anything to fix it as the worst that could happen is that i would fail to fix it.

and i dont know why i have just registered? i thought i'd been on here since 2009..... oh well

im sure people will say that i have damaged stuff etc and that it will probably break again etc, but we'll see. the difference is that i have a working, cool PS3 with reliable heat compounding that i am confident will be okay at least for now.

Re: YLOD 40gb

I had similar problems with my PS3.  I searched the web because I didn't want to lose my data. I found thiswebsite www.videogame911.com that do repairs and offer to save data. I got MY system back with my game saves in less then a week.
