Re: YLOD

[ Edited ]

Hmm, that's a bummer about the HDD, thank god I'd only been playing online since I last backed up, same for trophies, I haven't earned any more since last syncing. I guess I'll also have to ring Sony and get my old PS3 de-activated (should I get a slim, I'm not sure I want to live in fear of it happening again outside of the 6 month warranty.)

Re: YLOD

Sony might not deactivate it for you, they're quite iffy about doing that kind of thing. You could try the quick and easy hairdryer fix that's going around and has some success, that should give you more than enough time to do another backup, sync your trophies and deactivate it manually.

Re: YLOD

Well I guess I may not need to deactivate my fat, it's been my only PS3. You're allowed 5 are you not? But it's the kind of thing that can come back and bite you in the bum. Been reading on another forum about a chap who's had his 5, 2 of them had broken and he hadn't deactivated them so now he's bought a slim and, you can see where this is going.

Re: YLOD

yes indeed :smileysad:
If it fat is dead dead, and you aren't going to try and repair it, then the hairdryer is a "no loose" situation :smileyhappy:

At best, you will get it back to life long enough to get the game saves and deactivate it :smileyhappy:
At worst, you will melt the plastics, and still not get it alive - leaving you in the same boat as you are now...

IF you're planning on selling it as broken, then I would definitely recommend trying to hairdryer it, if only to remove your account details :smileyhappy:

but yes, as dnlgee says, Sony can be iffy about deactivating a console remotely unless it went back to them for the fix.
Presumably because that is the only way they KNOW they are deactivating a dead console instead of someone trying to get round game sharing :smileysad:
(not at all implying that you have done that!)

* YLOD? * *PSN Connection Problems?* *Blu Ray Problems

And we weren't even testing for that..

Right, what I'll do is get a 120GB slim from GAME and I may try and come over all Dom Littlewood and get them to throw in an extended warranty, I'll just say "I'll be coming back here again and again to buy my games etc." I can also use a £30 gift card I got for Christmas as well. I've checked on the external HDD I backed up on and it's from the 22nd, a week before it failed, so that'll be fine. Trophies will be fine as well. I'll put my 250GB HDD in, format it and put my backup on it. I'll be a bit poorer for a while but I think it's better in the long run. I won't bother about deactivating my fat, not sure what I'm going to do with it though. Might get my Dad to help me fix it and maybe eBay it.
