Ok so im gonna assume this has been covered countless times ive browsed around but would like a full explanation of my options..
So I've got an original launch 60gb ps3 from way back in 2007.. never had an issue whatsoever not even the slightest.. UNTIL around 2 weeks ago when launching the XMB menu in game would stick with the loading sign in the upper right of the screen making it impossible to navigate the game underneath, not a major issue as i just quit game and started over,
BUT last night during a game of BF3 i received a message so naturally went to view it, then attempted to resume my game.. the PS3 shut itself off and when i tried restarting to my joy i had 3 seconds of life - a brief yellow light and immediate shut down of the system... ive seen so many fixes on youtube etc hairdryer this heat gun that but as its obviously so old i wouldnt bank on it lasting much longer if at all with one of these temporary fixes.. SO
what is sony's take on this in the uk? If i was to ring them up tomorrow and explain my position what would they say? and what do you, the ps3 community advise me to do now?
Any feedback is appreciated, Thanks

Hey!
I'm really sorry to say but as you're using a 60GB console, your warranty has long since run out. The console will no longer be covered and you'll need to fork out for any of the options available to you. Here they are:
It's up to you which you choose to do, but options 1 and 3 are the only truely viable ones unless you fancy your chances and want to risk it. (I wouldn't. Ever.)

£130 for the sony option m8
dont do it is my advice just put the extra towards a new slim as the refurb will break again as will the computer shop repair
once its had ylod it always comes back no matter how well its fixed
Sort of what I was pointing towards without saying
A new console is most certainly your best option. It's just what you're gonna do with the old one that remains to be decided. Bin or temp fix really.

spoke to the 'LOVELY' people at sony today, apparently its £110 for a remanufactured 60gb OR 120gb slim.. which is a rip off when i can get a new en for 160ish.. and apparently sell my broken one for up to 70quid!
