I had my original ps3 for about six months then i day i switched it on and the starting music came on but none of the icons appeared on the screen so i took it back to hmv ,who then changed it for me as it was still under warranty. Then tonight the same thing happened again funnily enough i was playing the same game both times Resistance the fall of man anyone any ideas??

This is a very wide known issue, you will need to contact Sony about it as there aren't very many known fixes apart from hooking the HDD up to a SATA port.

The recovery menu is accessed by holding the power button down for 10 secs, therefore if the xmb doesn't load you can still access the recovery menu :smileytongue:
