i know this is a common problem and there are various threads already open on the subject of the PS3 giving error " data is corrupted 8002f225" when installing a new HDD but so far I have not been able to find a thread that has provided a workable solution.
I have a fat ps3 with an 80gb hdd which is no longer working. I put in a new 500gb HDD and tried to update the FW using 3.70 on a pen drive but keep getting the "data is corrupted 8002f225" error.
I also have a slim PS3 - I can put the 500gb hdd in to that drive and the update works a treat.
I have downloaded various ps3 updates - 3.56,3.61,3.70 - i get the same error with all of them
Any ideas on how to get the fat ps3 working again?
Sounds to me like 3.56 has struck again! That had the same problem, and they released a 'silent' update of 3.56 v2 that was a manual update that fixed the problem.
3.70 IMO has problems, so expect another update shortly.
There must be some way of getting this working
If it is the same situation, then you won't be able to replace the HDD now. Even when 3.56 v2 was released, I needed the original drive to update the firmware as putting it on a usb stick for the new console didn't work.
I do think you're a bit buggered though if I'm honest.
The same issue has been discussed in the topic here with some suggestion as to how others have rectified this.
Let me know how you get on
