when i turn my ps3 on the green light comes on and you can hear the fan kicks in for a second then it turns off with no lights on at all then it does the same thing everytime i turn it on    please help

I would advise running through the troubleshooting steps in our power problem guide  If your still having problems after that then contact PlayStation Support for further assistance.

I had the same problem with my old, fat PS3. Found out that it was the power supply that was broken. 

The only thing I could do was to buy a new PS3.

Try what SuperFastZombie said, otherwise, I hope you have a valid guarantee.

Certainly sounds like a power supply failure. It may be another issue but I strongly advise against any DIY replacement, as it's likely to cause you and the PS3 damage if you're unsure what you're doing.
