ps3 slim brand new out of the box freezing

i just bought a ps3  160 g    last night and not even 5 minutes of it being on it freezes,when i sign in to online it freezes,trying to play a game freezes,controller freezing, cant even power down ..... just everything u can think of it just crashes and i just seen that it left a hair line scratch in my brand new game

 

 

 

   what can be causing this? am i better off exchanging it?

If the store is open today just exchange it. And don't let them fob you off if they say there's nothing wrong with it.
