I need my Thieves Guild armour in order to finish the "Under new management" quest and become the Grand Master of the guild...however I cannot do this, as I sold the armous ages ago, as it was crap compared to my (daedric) armour.

So now, I am stuck with an unfinishable quest, because Bethesda could see that making the Thieves Guild armour un-sellable would be a good thing, as it's basically a quest item anyway.

I'm sure I'm not the only one here with this same problem.

You only need one piece of the armour to finish the quest, can you not remember who you sold it to as it will probably be available to buy back if you can?

Shame on you for selling unique armour in an Elder Scrolls game!

I went around all the stores that I have sold things to, and looked back at my house to see if it was still there too...but nope, no success.

They really should have made it un-sellable, like every other nessesary quest item!

This has happened to so many people...unless you have the PC version, and you can respawn the armour.

I'm so glad I knew this anyway

But I don't sell rare items, they get stored in my chest and I only sell weapons, gems, Dragon Bone/Scales or anything else readily available and not important to the game.

You'll just have to start a new game or load an earlier save up and work up to the Thieves Guild and complete it if you're desperate for the trophy.

• This armor is needed to exchange with Tonilia in a later quest. Without it, the quest cannot be completed and you're unable to use her as a fence. Additionally, you will not be able to finish Under New Management and become guildmaster if you do not have the armor.

For the above reasons do not under any circumstances sell your Thieves Guild Armor back to Tonilia or any other merchant as there will be no way at all to retrieve it. So far there seems to be no possibility of this issue being fixed on console

If you are more bothered about not getting the trophy for completing the quest then I'm sure it won't take too long to start again and only concentrate on the thieves guild on novice difficulty.

I'm just going to leave it until I've done everything else.

Then maybe (if I can be bothered) I'll start a new game and just do Thieves Guild quests.

so... does it have to be the original thieves guild armour you were given when you joined, or is the nightingale armour acceptable, because if not i am in the same position (though unless the patch that fixes quests comes out soon i am already looking at a restart (at least 3 quests on my quest list are glitched and 1 quest (blood on the ice) won't begin at all despite me doing everything you need to do correctly in order to get it to intiate).

I am with the op here.... if it was necessary for you to have the armour in order to complete the quest then you should not be able to sell it (like every other quest item in the game).

Its getting annoying.... quest items that are finished with can't be sold (and clutter up your homes or inventory with stuff you may not want), and some necessary quest items can be sold and mess up your game.

It has to be the original armour that belongs the the Thieves Guild as you upgrade it later on for the same, just better.

well that offcially confirms me doing a restart then. No big deal i guess, the amount of glicthed quests i have at the moment was making me think of restarting anyways, and i can always keep my first playthrough in case a patch fixes those quests. Just aiming for that platinum really... i only have 1 game platinumed so far (DIRT 2) and games that i can platinum are few and far between (due to my poor gaming skills!) so i gotta take adventage of those games where the paltinum is actually relatively easy to accomplish (lets face it, none of the trophies in skyrim require skill, its more to do with putting in time).
