Skyrim - First Impressions

Well I  revieved my copy of Skyrim yesterday (thanks Game!) and just thought I'd share my initial impressions after the first half hour or so of the game.

The environments are rich, very detailed, yet I don't feel the game is the next generation leap some hype mongers lead it to be. Dare I say it, but I feel Fallout 3/NV actually look slightly better. Thats not to say its not a pretty game, it just isn't the leap forward I was expecting.

The interface is much better, easier to navigate than Oblivion. Hooray!

The Dragons...wow they looked great. Looking forward to interacting more with them.

The women look better! Not the all ugly dwarf donkey hybrids that blessed oblivion!

Character creation is improved, with more options and better appearances.

I find the combat much better then oblivion the magic looks brilliant and the blur of the arrows as they wizz past is great.

Re: Skyrim - First Impressions

The graphics dont look all that amazing, but I´m glad they decided to focus on animation rather than graphics this time around. Swinging a greatsword used to feel so stiff and retarded in past elder scrolls games but here it feels way better.

Third person is also a huge improvement. Personally I like to cycle between 3rd and 1st person constantly, so the fact that your character now moves like a human being rather than a robot is great.

Re: Skyrim - First Impressions

What I have played so far, im loving. Just spoilt for choice as how to split what little time I have for gaming between the top titles that have came out in the past few weeks. BF3 (I adore), MW3 (very, but BF3 for me by a mile), Dark Souls (loving it), Uncharted 3 (awesome), now Skyrim.

Also Mario 3D, Mario Kart and Zelda yet to come, I cant keep up! Aaagggghhhhhh

Re: Skyrim - First Impressions

I still absolutely detest the way they have screwed up the leveling in this game. I never once had a problem with the way Oblivion worked, despite being able to see the inherent flaws in the system.

Skyrim's leveling system is just broken beyond belief. The game now requires you to manually save every time you clear room becasue you never know whether you are going to get gang-banged in the next room by three enemies you are much weaker than. I've died more times in the last three days playing this game than I ever have in oblivion. It sucks all the fun out of it and kills the flow of the game stone-dead.

Since Oblivion, Bethesda have produced nothing but rubbish in my opinion.
