The other day I was playing a few games and as our group was entering the game it froze, didn't even get into the game, just stuck on the loading screen.

Then when I went back to play another game a few days later a message popped up saying I left the game and as a result I was being penalised money and my level was dropped back to 1.

This sucks.  Anyone else seen this or had it done to them?  Is there a way to get it all back?

unfortunately u cant get it back. that is the new penalty system they have put in place. if u happen to quit a game while in progress u get penalised 2 ranks and $40K

worse news is they didnt take into account when things happen like freezing etc. like in your case....they still think u quit and still penalise u for it.

even worse is when u actually are playing a game like coop and the people u are with are absolute noobs and dont know ***** they are doing however u cant leave cos u will get penalised and have to wait 30 min for the game to finish

Two ranks?  I went from 7 to 1. 

Been playing a bit more now so the rank is finally moving into the teens and not getting the n00b calls from the other players as much.

Anyone who calls you a n00b because of your level in a game where you rank up by playing a lot is an idiot.

isnt it consecutive quits that loses you ranks?

Look at it from other peoples perspectives, if you're connection continually drops out then it inconveniences the others too. If you quit when things arent going your way, same deal. If you have to quit for a legit reason, the first quit shouldn't incur a penalty. Unless they've changed how it works since I've played it that is.

The penalty is 40k and proportionate loss of ranking, not neccessarily 2 rankings.
As mentioned, 40k is enough to drop you from 7 to 1 but once you're higher up, say level 45 to 46, you need 500k to get to the next level so you're not likely to drop a rank.

The cash penalty is variable depending on what level you are on I thought?

Level 1 to 20 – $10,000

Level 21 to 40 – $20,000
Level 41 to 60 – $40,000

That doesnt explain going back from level 7 to 1, but something that happened to me is similar -

.. I had a lockup when the countdown got to the 'game starting in 1' stage a few nights ago .. had just gotten a few K over level 41. I had to reset my console and when i restarted the game my cash was nearly back to level 40 .. my penalty was nearly $200,000 and the match hadnt even started!

I really don't like extreme penalties for quitting mid game. Sure you want to stop people who rage quit when they're on a losing streak but sometimes I just can't keep playing because I have to take a phonecall or whatever and you shouldn't be shoved down to rank 1 because of it.

The worst part is that if you forgot to turn your system off whilst playing online the game will kick you for being idle,

If that happens you'll be placed back into the matchmaking server when the cycle begins again...
