What specific uncharted game are you playing? 

In uncharted 1, the sixaxis motion sensors are on by default so when you walk through a ledge you need to keep the controller in a stable position so you don't fall. 

In uncharted 3 I believe they are not turned on so you just have to keep the analog sticks stable and pointing to the way you are going.
