I haven't played any of the Dead Space games but I have played the first 2 demos. DS1 was terrifying, it was very hard and I think the demo was the first level. It was so scary I didn't complete the demo. When the DS2 demo came got, I was never scared, it was still hard-ish but I managed to complete the demo. Looking at the DS3 gameplay it doesn't seem scary or hard anymore. I know that the people playing the game will have played that little section 100s of times over, but still. Wide open areas, big boss, it just seems like another Si-Fi shooter now. I can't see any of the horror elements that put the game in the eyes of the public in the first place.
As an outsider to the series, am I wrong? Is this what the fans want and asked for?

The point of showing off demo's at big events like E3 is to show fans stuff they havent seen before, if the demo at E3 was you walking down a dark corridor jumping at things then it would be a waste of demo time because we're familiar with that, yes Visceral games are going down a more action oriented route but its still dead space and they know how to create a creepy unsettling atmosphere, the company is trying to challenge themselves by saying okay lets try and make this scary but in a way dead space fans havent seen before so you can guarantee it'll still be creepy as hell, you need variety in any sequel, sorry for the long block of text im using the ps3 browser to write this

The game is trying to attract new customers so they will show those sort of parts of the game off. If they see it more as a shooter then they are more likely to go out and buy it. What this does though is upset the die hard fans in thinking that's all it is before they have seen the other parts of the game. I'm sure Dead Space 3 will have a mixture of levels and I hardly think much of it will be spent outside in the open and I'm sure you will come across deep underground tunnels as well.
The best thing is if you want more of a survival horror experience then just play the game on hard or any of the harder modes. Ammo and health are scarce, you have to think about every shot and the enemies are tougher etc. Survival horror does not mean tight dark spaces. It means limited health and ammo. A sense of vulnerability.
I just started Dead Space 2 last night and so far its more of the same. Just think how much worn out Dead Space 3 would be if it was more of the same. Games need to evolve and I like what they are doing with Dead Space 3. The Thing wasn't exactly a tame film back in its day was it ![]()

I started Dead Space 2 yesterday aswell, im on chapter 4 in the Church of Unitology, i much prefer it to DS1 and i like how it has a mixture of action and suspense, the atmosphere of the game is awesome
Like i said in my above post they showed that specific demo to show Dead Space fans something they havent seen before, they cant make a 3rd game set in similar environments to 1 and 2 because then people would be complaining its exactly the same
im really excited for DS3 and im glad they arent including multiplayer this time because although DS2 MP is kinda fun its not necessary
