Does anyone explain how the ignore function works?

When clicking on a profile, there's an ignore function on the bottom right corner.

I've tried activating it, so I wouldn't have to see a certain user's posts anymore, but it didn't work.

I can still see his posts and threads.

Never noticed it but i think it may just be restricted to not being able to send you PM's
