Kudos FAQ
What does Kudos mean?
Webster's tells us the word kudos comes from Greek and means "praise and renown resulting from an act or achievement." For you etymology buffs, yes, we've taken a few liberties with the lexicon, and use kudos as a plural noun, with the backformation kudo as the singular form. We've also coined kudoed (having been given kudos) and kudoer (one who gives kudos). Why should I bother to give Kudos?
Kudos is a way to highlight content that you found particularly helpful, informative or of a high standard. By highlighting the post in the community you are helping other community members that may also find the post worthy of notice. Likewise you will help to highlight the post for the community managers that in-turn are able to identify and organise such content that the community find relevant.
I'm a new member, when can I start giving Kudos?
In order to give kudos you will have to have been a member of the community for at least 2 weeks and have had a minimum of 500 page views on the forums.
Can I see who has given me Kudos?
Yes. Simply click on the number within the kudos icon that sits inside your post. This will display all users that have submitted kudos to your post. Alternatively for an overview of your posts that have received kudos you can click on ‘My Profile' and view the ‘Recent Kudos Received' board.
What can I do to get more Kudos?
Users will generally give kudos to posts that they find informative, helpful, well-written, funny, insightful, valuable or on-the-whole an accurate representation of the community's view. If your post consists of any of these qualities then you're on the right track!
Do I get anything good for receiving lots of Kudos?
Yes, recognition within the community! The kudos leaderboards are all over the forums. The Kudos Author Leaderboards are refreshed on a daily basis to display the user that has received the most kudos throughout the day. The Kudos Message Leaderboards are refreshed on a weekly basis to display the most kudoed message of the week.
How much Kudos can I give out?
As many as you like! Think of it as saying "well done" to another person ....and there should never be a limit to that! Although to regulate possible abuse of the system we only allow you to give out 2 kudos points per minute.
Can I ‘Kudo' a post more than once?
No. ‘Kudoing' a message once is sufficient to register your praise.
Can I Kudos myself?
No. This is a community based tool that requires input from your peers.
Can I give someone negative Kudos?
No. Kudos is purely used in a positive manner. Either you feel the need to say "well done" or you don't.
Can I stop Kudos for a certain post I've made?
Only moderators can "freeze" kudos. If for any reason you would like them to do this for you post then simply contact one and ask them to do so.
Can I give Kudos via the PS3 Browser?
Alas! Unfortunately the Lithium forum software is currently not "officially" supported within the PS3 browser, which means kudos is not likely to work.
Can I see Kudos on my Portable ID?
No, the Portable ID is linked to your PSN profile which sits separate to your PlayStation forum profile.
Can I Kudos a member of the Community Team?
Whilst you can kudos the the Community Team they will never appear in the leaderboards.
Can the Community Team give me Kudos?
No. The Community Team are not able to give kudos.
Why can't I give Kudos?

What happens if I reach the top of the Kudos Leaderboard?
You will be praised throughout the community and history will rejoice your name for centuries to come. Other than this not much, but well done! Essentially this symbolizes that you are valued contributer within the PlayStation community. Many people enjoy reading your posts and will actively look to do so again in future. If you regularly hold the top spot then users and the Community Team alike will consider you somewhat of a pillar of the PlayStation community, congratulations!
What does the ‘Medal' icon mean?
When a post receives an amount of kudos that exceeds our settings for the "hot kudos threshold" then a gold medal will be displayed instead of the actual number of kudos received. This symbolizes that the post in question has received such a high number of kudos that we deem it worthy of even more visibility within the community.
Can I withdraw Kudos after I've given it? How?
Yes. If, for whatever reason, you decide to withdraw the kudos that you recently submitted to a post then you can do so by opening the options menu in the post and clicking "Revoke My Kudos for this Message". The system automatically subtracts the value of the kudos you gave from the total.
I think someone is cheating the system... what should I do?
It's very likely that a moderator will be fully aware of someone trying to cheat the system but if you also spot this then you should report the user via the standard methods.
How do I change the location of the Kudos Leaderboards?
Simple! Click on My Profile > Preferences > Display settings and choose where you would like the leaderboards to sit.
I don't want to receive Kudos... What can I do?
Kudos is a great way to receive a "thumbs up" from your community peers but if for any reason you don't want to receive this attention then simply contact a moderator and ask for Kudos to be disabled for your message.
Why isn't Kudos enabled in every board?
We have thought long and hard about where we want to enable kudos. We feel that it will be best put to use within sections of the forum that frequently receive informative and valuable content. This would highlight such content for the entire community to see, which would be specifically helpful for users that may not be too familiar with that area of the forum.
Why can't I revoke the kudos I've just given?
You can! Simply navigate out of the thread and then return to it, you should now notice that you have that option in the drop down menu.
I can't give kudos yet as I've not been a member for two weeks. Does that mean I can't receive kudos either?
Absoulutely not. You can start receiving kudos from day one.
