What does it mean when one of your threads ends up in the grey bit on the main thread board please?

[ Edited ]

One of my threads, has ended up in the grey bit, I've heard this is called a 'sticky' or something and it's some sort of permanent listing or semi-permanent listing on that forum - would someone be kind enough to tell me if this is true or if it means something completely different?

Please use plain text.

If your thread is floated to the top like all the announcement ones, such as the Kudos FAQ in this section, then it has been "Stickied" and will stay there until a member of staff unstickies it :smileyhappy:

Well done!

Thankyou for your congratulations, you seem to be my only reply at the moment, and I've given you a kudos point for your answer.

Do you know what the qualifying criteria for having a thread 'stickied' is though, does it actually mean much and when and for what reason would a moderator take it down again please?

I only ask, because I haven't finished with that thread yet and have an awful lot more to add to it, in response to some of the content of the various people who have posted answers on it.

I've had a break from it, because one particular individual (who I've reported several times) was really annoying me with his answers on that and other threads of mine and I needed to take a deep breath and post some 'lighter' threads and have a bit of entertainment, but I have some important comments to make back on it when I feel ready to do so, unless of course it gets locked or deleted or something.

Is there a 'lifetime' for threads or a maximum number of pages they can have please?

Also, is there a maximum number of posts a thread can hold and is that a linking factor to how many pages a thread can have as well please?

All that a sticky means is that the moderators think the thread deserves recognition and is worth reading by anyone looking in the section. There's no limits to what can be done, as it's still the same topic it was before :smileywink:

What's the topic in question?

A 'stickied' topic just means that it will always remain at the top of the board for all to see, instead of being left to die and get lost with all the other random topics.

It does not Even have to be the Original Post that gets a thread stickyed

It can be the Replies that the mod rated as Highly valued info...

Well, I thought it might have been 'stickyed' more for peoples' replies to my thread, rather than the actual question of the thread itself, I am not so vain as to think it was all about me or me at all even!

Be honest, were you trying to be diplomatic with this answer, saying in a round abouts way, what was deemed worthy was not what I'd necessarily asked or answered at all, or were you just furnishing me with the facts?
