I'm having same probs, can only get as fair as the main screen, this totally sucks for a game thats been delayed so much, do sony even test before putting things online now?

I started downloading the main file then left it in background download then i downloaded the small file and installed it while the main file was downloading in background.

Mines works fine, done the small then big option.

Another thought - are you connected to the PSN whilst experiencing problems? That may the causing the grief (GTA4 style).

Try playing offline only.

I did small then big. I went and changed my output res settings to anything other than 1080p, and its not crashed since,try it. Just got my first trophy too.
