Putting a feeler out to see if anybody would be interested in this, and if anyone has any ideas to put forward on it if you are?
I know @Tassie_tiger was interested, but we were trying to figure out how to regulate it with regards to a cheeky corner cut/glitch etc.
An idea for this would be to upload a replay to eg. YouTube via the share function.
The handy thing is that ps4 allows us to do this really easily with only a few button pushes.
I guess the recording could be either onboard or trackside cam. It's really just to make sure people aren't taking advantage of any random track limits/wall rides. I also figure this could include a glimps of any track settings, as confirmation that everyone is in the same boat... er.. Car.. Track... whatever
Sooo, what do you think?
Same make car on a particular track rotating each week, or month?
Locked or unlocked tunes/bop?
Im not so great at time attacks myself and normally prefer a good race, but If anyone is interested in this, feel free to stick any of your thoughts and feedback in this thread, and maybe we can put something together. 👍
Tass is going to be taking some time out here and there for a while, so I could probably take this up during his off time if he fancies... . Or if I'm intelligent enough, figure it out myself 😁
Yep, I'm keen.
And it was a reasonably popular forum event in earlier versions of GT.
I did have a look at it a while back.
And you would think Arcade "Time Trial" is the obvious place to run the event.
Unfortunately I found a few issues.
I guess BoP or no BoP, and tuning or no tuning is something we can decide for ourselves.
But in Time Trial you can turn off Shortcut and Wall Collision penalties.
And I'm sorry PD, but I really don't understand the thinking behind having a Time Trial and then allowing short cuts and/or wall riding.
Short cuts or wall collisions should invalidate the lap. Period.
So it seems that just showing a screen shot of your best lap time isn't going to cut it.
Which is a shame.
So what other options are there?
Other than submitting a video showing the track settings used followed by the lap, or submit a video and then have someone scrutinise it, I'm not sure.
Circuit Experience sort of works.
It employs time penalties for shortcuts, etc.
But the car choice is of course non-existant.
I'll put my thinking cap on and test a few things out.
Yup yup, I think the replay function should work pretty well for us to see about track limits etc.
If it's a one lapper, it should even be available to share in game too I guess?
I've never tried from time trial myself.
So easy to upload screen capture now as long as people have a youtube/dailymotion etc.
We can all be a regular Charlie whiting now 😁@Tassie_tiger
The easiest thing to do to get something up and running would be to hold the event using the Time Trial mode and simply have 2 rules:
1: You must use this car.
2: You must drive this track.
People then upload their Best Lap Replay in GT Sport, and someone else watches it to check for obvious short cuts or wall rides.
Anything and everything else is allowed.
Including Mileage point upgrades, tuning, etc.
I've been trying to look through any other prohibition settings,
And I can't find the one that says 'Tassie_tiger at Bathurst' 😩
All the above is largely based around giving people time to give the event a go over a week or so at their leisure.
The other option that comes to mind is to actually have a Time Attack online night.
On the forum announce the car to be used for the night of the event in advance.
Then you can set the lobby to whatever options you wish.
BoP, Tuning Prohibited, Sport Softs, Short Cut - Strong, etc.
Maybe even run 2 tracks, chosen via the Track vote system.
30 minutes on each track to put down your best lap time.
Fastest total combined time wins.
Dunno, just throwing it out there.
when you have it all figured out I'll give it a go. @NAC72 Remember how intense this got between us last time swapping tenths here and there
Yes mate I certainly do. It took you a while with us swapping times left right and ayrton but you beat me fair and square. Good times in more ways than one.@gus72
Throwing another idea out there for a championship
on the night have Bop on and tuning prohibited then no tyre wear or fuel usesage the draw a track out and a car everyone has to use 15-20 mins qually then race it. simples
I think it would keep the pad users such as @Itsnotmyname @PhoeniX-J-five please tag rob in this as I can't plus it would stop Ren doing all the testing and stressing.
Just a thought
To check for infractions via replay, you need to use the 3rd person view.
I'd been talking with Tassie about setting up a community time trial event for the launch of the game. For whatever reason, it didn't really happen. But as some are already aware, I have set up an official time trial competition with PlayStation that included GT Sport merchandise as prizes. But I've been waiting several months now for the Terms & Conditions to come through. I probably shouldn't have said "There's no rush with it". As I was hoping for it to be the launch of a more regular thing. Among other activities planned with PlayStation and PD.
Anyway, I think I'll just tell them to forget about that one. As I have no idea how long it's going to take to get sorted. And to be honest, I'd rather we just get something going as soon as.
So I'll be looking forward to a community time trial / hot lap competition (whatever you want to call it).
I think uploading a video is a must for a valid entry. And make sure the users ID is displayed somewhere in the video.
Yeah, just trying to get some feedback and thoughts at the moment anyway, but would be good to get some balls rolling as soon as really.
The forum's looking a bit more like tech support at the minute@RenegadeXtreme
Yeah, tell me about it. Been having lot's of discussions about the support thing.
I guess there's two ways of going about it with a time trial competition. You can maybe do both.
First, is the traditional method of having people do their lap and post a video of their attempt. The second option is to set up a lobby and participants do 1 hot lap live. Possibly stream it too. Putting a lot more excitement and pressure to the event.@PhoeniX-J-five
I was having a think about this myself too.
I think both could work.
eg. Have a hotlap with video period (say a week, or two. whatever suits), then a lap attack/super pole style lap in a lobby against each other.
This could also work in tiers. As an example, lets say 9 drivers enter, the bottom 3 times have a 1 lap face off, then the mid 3, then top 3, that way each class of driver gets to have their own little final.
Sombody else could host the room in spectate mode using the spectator features in game. That way we could actually create more of a visual community channel
We could also have 1 on 1 knockout style tournaments on the odd occasion, but I would say this one could be more of a rarity, otherwise some people might get fed up if they come up against a higher class opponent each time and get knocked out first round.
the proper name for that is time attack and as you know I am always up for this.
Good to hear Skells 👍
If you have any other thoughts or feedback on what's been suggested already, or ideas on how the event could be laid out then feel free to post them.
You're one of the longer running OPC members, so I'd say your feedback is just as good as anybody else on here 🙂@skells22
