Killzone Shadow Fall Beginners Guide!
as any new game can be kinda daunting, heres some tips, hints and guides to help you out the first few times you play. nothing too strange in here if youve played a shooter before 8).
Start the game (or, er, 'application').
down the right side of the Multiplayer main menu youll find My Career. in here houses all your stats, challenges and loadouts. before going anywhere, you might aswell check out your Loadouts.
hop over to the Edit Loadouts tab. there are FOUR classes to pick from, with a few different Loadout slots to customise how you want.
- Scout are the snipering, invisible type dudes.
- Assault are the shield wielding and assault rifle carrying guys.
- Support are the medics with spawn beacons, turrets and LMGs.
- Insurgent* are the every man, customisable. starts with just a pistol and Hack and Steal abilities. pick up guns to keep, hack turrets/spawns, and steal any other two abilites from fallen enemies, mix 'n' match style.
*Insurgent class is DLC.
each class also has two Abilities. in-game one is assigned to the left button (<--) and will always be the same one, and the other ability on the right button (-->:smileywink: can be one from a selection of option per class.
<-- Echo - a pulse to highlight enemies through walls in an orange glow for your team. enemies can also see your pulse, holding too long gives away your position.
for the right button you can pick one of these:
--> Cloak - you go invisible, but can only carry a knife. R2 or R3 to slash, once a kill is made you become visable.
--> Teleport - zap intantly to another location, but its random.
--> Detector Drone - stationary until enemies come close to its proximity, blinds with a fizzy blur (like Shockwave).
--> Guard Drone*
<-- Shield - pop it down with R2, shields from gun fire. enemy 'nades can pass through. can be destroyed by explosives (and underslung launcher) as well as Shockwave and Drones.
for the right button you can pick one of these:
--> Speed Dash - gives you better and quicker movement speed (not upgradedable).
--> Shockwave - blinds and disorinentates close enemies with a blurry fizz.
--> Buddy Drone - a drone thall stick by you and shoot at enemies, or bots, can give away position and also harm you if in the way.
--> E-Pulse Emitter*
<-- Revive Drone - send to revive a teammate, which is a medic/plus symbol on screen. accept a revive from someone with the triangle button.
for the right button you can pick one of these:
--> Spawn Beacon - set device down with R2 (the direction youre facing is the direction other will spawn too) and teammates can spawn here. can be destroyed, deconstructed and hacked (or camped).
--> Turret - set gun down with R2, will shoot enemies. can be destroyed or deconstructed from behind. can be disabled by Shockwave/Drones.
--> Air Support - a bot that roams the skies looking for prey, can be hidden from. can only be used in outside areas. can be taken down by underslung missiles easily.
--> Supply Box - drop down a box of ammo for your team.
--> Teleport - teleport quickly out of battle.
--> Echo Emitter*
Insurgent always has two abilities on them.
- Hacking - holding the square button on turrets or spawn beacons hacks them to their team.
- Stealing - they can pick-up any two combinations of abilities from fallen enemies by holding square on a player. they then get to use each one a maximum of three times (indicated by little dashes), before losing it and having to find another.
Weapons & Equipment:
each Loadout can also have one main weapon (with attachments), one sidearm (more attachments) and one explosive.
each class has a few guns to themselves (Scouts have snipers, Assaults, Supports have rifles and LMGs, Insurgent have to pick up their main weapons), aswell as one or two sidearms and a couple of explosives too. just the normal pick and choose what you fancy.
press R1 to huzz a nade!
- Petrusite Grenades
when thrown they spew out a green, glowing, crackling petrusite. very deadly and good for keep enmies away from areas (eg around S&D points). the capsules can be shot to stop them!
press the L1 button to switch to your guns second function or attachment. most have to be earned and unlocked. some useful ones are:
- Missiles and E-stun Missiles
these are very useful for taking down flying bots quickly (the e-stun only stuns though), also good for disabling turrets, spawn points, buddy drones and Assault shields too.
- HE Grenade
a bit like the missiles, but weaker and without a lock-on. good for crowds.
- Flashlight (pistol attachment)
great for blinding enemies.
to unlock more bits and pieces, youve gotta completed Challenges, though you have alot to start with. to see which weapons and equipment youve got for each of your Loadouts, just switch between the Weapon, Sidearm and Explosives tabs. the ones ticked are the ones you have.
if you wanna see how to unlock an unavailable weapon, press X to View Challenges associated with it.
Challenges and your rank:
Challenges are also in the My Career section. completing Challenges opens up extras (like different types of grenades or other abilities to use) and also determines the little number next to your name in-game, a bit like a rank.
theres 1000s to do and most will probably come naturally over (alot) of time. you can also unlock emblems for your Player Card with some challenges too.
Looking for a game (a Warzone) and joining friends games:
a Warzone is just a group of games. from the main menu pick All Warzones. find a type you like the sound of, itll then pop you into a game with those settings. the number is the amounf of games being played using that type of Warzone set up.
Creating a Warzone:
if you wanna create your own game with any options you want, go to the My Warzone tab and press triangle. lots of different option in there. including Bots in your game will disable Challenges.
PLAYING THE GAME!
this is your starting point! here you can select your Spawn Point or press R1 to pick and edit your Loadouts. you can also see which classes people are using on your team - very handy for choosing which ones are needed at a certain time.
press left and right to scroll through spawn points to can spawn at. if theres only one, you aint got a choice 8D. spawning usually comes in short waves.
- on the spawn screen is a map, the green tag is your basecamp, you can always spawn here.
- the other green tags are Spawn Beacons put down by friendly Support team mates (a yellow one means its under fire). the number is how many other people are spawning on it.
Ingame comms - Killzone doesnt offer mic comms yet, but you can start a Party on the PS4s menu, invite friends and chat and text from there.
Invites - if you want to invite a friend into your game, press the Options button and select from there.
Scoreboard - to bring up your scoreboard while playing, press the touchpad.
there are 8 modes in total. depending on the Warzone youre playing in, they might not use them all. some are from previous KZs, a couple are renamed and a few are new.
Capture & Hold - capture zones A, B or C. no order needed, when theyre green youve got em, if theyre flashing red or red, you dont have them.
Team Deathmatch - kill as many enemies as you can. being revived doesnt make a difference, though getting killed again does.
Search & Destroy - either attack or defend two points. both need to be blown up and can be disarmed. the more people arming at the same time, the quicker it gets armed.
Beacon Retrieval - find the beacon, grab it, and take it to your green indicated drop-off point (always the same location). red icon is your enemies point.
Beacon Theft - grab your enmies beacon and bring it back to your base. must have your one back at base to score. the icon disappears/reappears if enemies are carrying it.
Beacon Safeguard - much like the other beacon modes, but you hold it for as long as possible anywhere.
Capture & Connect - much like C&H, but more zones, and they must be grabbed in order. defend green and capturing red. theres only two icons on screen, theyre the active ones.
The Divide - the one with the big gap in the middle and the thin walkways.
The Spire - the one in the clouds.
The Park - the one with all the colourful adverts.
The Station - the one with the broken trains.
The Wall - the dark rainy one.
The Penthouse - the one above the city with the rotating doors.
The Factory - the one with the moving containers.
The Forest - the open one with loads of trees.
The Remains - the one with the crack down the middle of the Boulevard.
The Slums - the one with the escalators.
The Cruiser** the one on a glowy spaceship.
The Hanger** the long one.
- you can hide your spawn beacons for better placements and less chance of them being destroyed. they will also disappear after a certain time.
- always have lots of spawn beacons up and about. if theres enough or you pop one down, you can switch classes.
- Assault class are great as attackers, but also as defenders too.
- Scouts are useful for keeping folks at bay and sneaking up on objectives too.
- your abilities upgrade the more you use them.
thought it was time to update this a bit more (and add new stuff we've learnt from playing so much 8D). so have added a few more bits and sorted everything around. also included Insurgent stuff and whatnot.
if anyone has any other cool bits to pop in, shout it out and we'll get it in there :).
Im waiting for this game to come via mail, so thanks for "intro' what can I expect there :-)
If maps are from free DLC is the class from free DLC alos or is that another DLC ?
think this thread is a little outdated now (theres about 6 free maps in total for free now and other small changes :D).
yeah all the maps are still free, but the Insurgent class is seperate dlc and has to be bought 8).
we can now earn Valor, which is like in-game credit, to buy other smaller dlcs in-game too. but Insurgent isnt available in there, you can only buy it with real money i think.
Community wise NO. Multiplayer player number wise YES.@THEGAY-KLINGON
Last time I poked my head round the door - yes.
Also, I really hope you meant 'community'.
im at work so i mispelled lol hmm not a great word to spell wrong....dont worry im straight lol@Nakatsu_Hime
Your brightness settings in the game suck! I have such a hard time seeing objectives in the game. I cant even see the helgast easily and im playing the campaign on easy mode. Fix it back to the settings u had it on killzone 2
That might be tough for even narr to do
There's no devs on this thread tg, just fellow gamers.
probably busy finishing horizon zero dawn. You could try guerrila games' or killzone's website if you wanna vent but I wouldn't get my hopes up.@tgyi15
hehe yeah, sorry, not much good popping it in this thread, as Lordy said. though im sure the devs are still poking around here, so you can always make a thread or post about your brightness issue incase theyre around 8)
