Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes

Developed by Kojima Productions and produced by Konami It will be the ninth entry in the Metal Gear series, and will be the first to have an open world gameplay structure. Director Hideo Kojima confirmed that Big Boss will return as the game's protagonist in a story that will serve as a prologue to Metal Gear Solid 5.

There aren't a lot of details available at the moment but some of the feedback from the event mentions that the action took place in an open environment and Snake was driving a truck at some point because that's the stealthy thing to do these days. I haven't seen enough information yet to decide how I feel about this, though I'm anticipating this more than Rising.

Also, where was Metal Gear Online 3?!?! :catsad:

I thought it was a chunk of metal personally, as if to suggest he had just escaped an explosion.

Galvez's prosthetic was more of a gauntlet then a hand.

Big Boss' one seems to have full limb movement whereas Galvez could only flip the thumb back to reveal a lighter and fire the whole thing off like a rocket. XD

Plenty of new details for you to update. :p

There's the confirmation that Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain are both the same game and the game's new title is Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain.

Next there's the new trailer with plenty of explosions and screen flare:

Plus, there are some new story details. The whole game is supposed to be open world and the scene in the hospital is at the beginning of the game and serves as a tutorial. It's also revealed that Big Boss has fell into a coma after Mother Base is attacked and destroyed. He wakes up 9 years later and sets up Diamond Dogs in Africa, presumably a first step in taking out revenge against the "XOF unit".

I'll leave the two threads seperate as there is still talk about how the two work together but are seperate but aren't but are 5... but... wait... what!? :catlol:

I'm pretty sure this has most likely already been mentioned but I love the song in the trailer.

I love that song myself.

Here's a fun fact, that song is the 5th track of the 5th album by the same name. Coincidence?

Zavvi have it up for preorder with a possible release date of 15th November 2013

http://www.zavvi.com/games/platforms/ps3/metal-gear-solid-v-the-phantom-pain/10792309.html

Unfortunately it's on preorder for XBOX 360 too, Kojima cancel it like XBOX 360 MGR: Revengeance in Japan.

I think Zavvi might want to rethink their price for the game... ;)
If it was on PS4, which I kinda hope that does get announced, then sure.

Anyway I thought I already had it pre-ordered at ShopTo but I guess you couldn't at the time...... Have now though!

Kojima has confirmed that the "main character" will be voiced by someone new, in order to make the series fresh.

This is a risky move imo.

Even so, David Hayter voices Solid Snake and was put in as Big Boss for MGS3 and Peace Walker probably because the change was not deemed important. In MGS4

Spoiler
When Big Boss appears at the end he is voiced by Richard Doyle seeing as him and Solid are talking to each other they have to avoid confusion by distinguishing the two, especially since Solid isn't a direct clone it is possible for them to have a different voice.

Our forum expert on human cloning there.

To me it's ok because I personally view Metal Gear Solid as finished, in my eyes Snake killed himself/wondered off to die in MGS4 and that's the saga done with.
There's only Rising that beings any aftermath of that story and fans decided they don't want that in the main universe anyway. My feelings for Metal Gear Solid are the same as Assassin's Creed at this point. I'm happy to leave it where it is, because the story is told and over... but now if they want me to buy Assassin's Creed 4 or MGS V, they'd better reveal something substantial that makes me rethink the saga. A twist that makes the game NOT seem like just another prequel to squeeze into the timeline because they ended their story too soon.

I don't think it will be, look at MGS3, nothing like a prequel in my opinion despite being the beginning of the timeline and I think people want to hear more about Big Boss, they only displayed his rise, and as good as Peace Walker was it lacked the impact of storyline (probably because it's a handheld game) so MGSV should fit in quite nicely to explain more about Big Boss.

Yeah but my point, although I tend to ramble on sometimes, was that the we know Big Boss' origin story, we know that he is defeated twice by Solid Snake, and we know that he gives in and takes his dose of Foxdie in MGS4... why do we need a game about what happened after Peacewalker when we know that chronologically it's just MGS3, MGSPortOps, MGSPeaceWalker, MG1, MG2, MGS1, MGS2, MGS4, MGR:Revengeance [if you wanna...]
Nothing is going to happen in the story that is drastic enough... it's like when you watch the Simpsons and you know no matter how crazy everything gets it'll be all back to normal by the end.

The game is either going to be a set up for MG1's plot, or a retelling on MG1 and MG2 in my opinion.

Garry is spot on but im personally just want all the grey areas filled in. To me its like watching star wars episode 1,2,4,5,6 we know what's coming but we still wanted episode 3 to see how it all went down. :)
