Piggie

OK  -  someone needs to give me a very straight answer here.

I've been giving piggie love every time I go back to my house. He then follows me around Pokke Village if I love him good.

But...

What the heck is it, why is he there and does he actually do anything?

He's cute, but common - he must have a purpose!!

Well on the original Monster Hunter for the PS2 patting the piggie gave you better luck and a slightly better chance of getting rarer items in rewards. Well if I remember correctly anyway. So i'm sure the same applies with this little piggie.

Make him follow you and get slightly better odds of rarer items when it comes down to the rewards in a quest.

The Piggy doesnt give luck anymore (and I think it was a rumour in the first place)

It mainl serves as a training tool to cook the meat, and have something cute in the game (other than the kitties)

I agree with TheMarvel...

On the PS2 it was always assumed that the piggy increased luck, but I've never actually seen any evidence of this whatsoever (and believe me, I've sunk some serious hours into this franchise).

I'm truly of the opinion that the pig is simply a placebo, put in the village because the Japanese love that kind of thing. But maybe someone could once a for all do an experiment. Do 100 Los plate runs without stroking the pig, and 100 with and see how many plates each run yields.

If it does have an effect on luck, it is negligible - like 0.5% or something.

I thought it is just there to help you time cooking meat. But I never cook meat myself, why have slave cats and not use them?

If you can find out what's purpose is MB, I'll forgive you.

OK - I directed my question to Capcom Europe, who said (and I quote):

"The piggie! Right, this is a slightly unsolvable issue. Some people claim that petting Piggie gives you increased luck before a mission. Some people say that they've read the devs saying that in an interview, but some people say they've read that it does nothing and it's just for fun. When I asked the devs they just laughed. So, er, we don't know :)"

I laughed... for like an hour! The mystery continues! Further theories... anyone!?

I agree with people who says its to help train timing to cook meat.

Overall, the piggie is like a ornament in the house ^^;

Figures that Capsom Europe would'nt know ;_;

Next is to ask Capcom Japan lol

And if they don't know then the Piggie is a mystery XD

Chompman on the Capcom Europe forums (if he's still there) has a direct line to the producer of the franchise.

Hassle him... :)

I have not played my psp for some time but if I remember correctly u pay him attention it plays a funky tune & if u interact at the right time he gets hearts coming from his head & give you extra luck.

It can be handy if u need something rare from a certain boss.

They should turn the ps3 into some sort of mini server so we can play each other online like kia xlink works.

The luck is under debate in this very thread...

Sony have turned the PS3 into a server very much like Xlink Kai. Check it out...

Unfortunately they're being annoying and it's not available outside Japan (although MB made a post implying it may be on it's way - but I won't hold my breath...). You can however look on YouTube and go through the palava of setting up a Japanese account to get it. I know this works as I have a UK based friend on my list who is successfully using it every night.

Go on musty let it slip, we won't tell many people. 'Course, if it's only for people with wired connections, I'm not bothered. You can keep your tantalizing information to yourself.
