Hmm looks very Windows 8/Mobile, but that's never a bad thing.
Who do I have to bribe to get this as my UI .... Seriously, much better layout and smarter than the bubble/leaf one. This just makes sense ...
It looks good, but to be honest I love using my own custom wallpapers. The Vita's current UI is my personal preference. Kudos to the guy who made this, though
looks cool i think the official vita ui does need a makeover
this is awesome. really hope vita Ui is redesigned when ps4 launches so that both consoles have the same unified UI . bubbles aint so good.
I like it. Much prefer this style over the child like bubbles.
Also, as previously mentioned, it looks like it would help to strengthen the aesthetics between the Vita and PS4. Is this a hint, Sony? Maybe a sneaky UI update in the Summer in preparation for (the alleged) PS4 release at the end of the year? Hmmmm.
I'd love to see some different ideas too. Maybe tieing to the PS4 UI design but something that sets it apart a little at the same time.
It could yet... once the PS4 changes it's store and UI... Xbox 360 had a major UI change...
Just put XMB with dynamic themes, it's all I want for the Vita. Every time I do remote play and see how great the xmb fit the Vita and how awesome dynamic themes are in it *sigh* oh well...
It's bad imho. And it's the exact same look as the new Windows 8 look.
If I had to choose, than I'd prefer the steam big picture like UI.
But since you guys are interested in this topic. I'll try to create one myself, and see what kind of a ressult it will give.
So here it is my design (see image below).
I know it doesn't look that good, but I'm not a graphical designer. I just want to represent my idea.
So on the left you have a list of your apps/games etc. You can scroll downwards, and you can create multiple columns which you can slide through. (left-right slide gesture). You can also make that column on the left wider.
On the right hand you have all kinds of app details. Again it doesn't look really good, but I'm sure there are some creative people out there at sony who can fix it. So on that screen you can have all kinds of info, which depends on the app. But for games in general it can be kept with a same structure.
And there should also be the possibility to minimalize that general info window on the right hand, so that you have your screen only filled with the apps list.
I'm not saying that they my idea should be implemented, but I'm just pointing towards the fact that this Windows 8 looking UI, isn't ergonomic. It lacks ease of access for all your apps etc.
Firstly - I would like to thank everyone for their feedback, both positive & negative, as a designer it is really appreciated, I know it is very close to W8 - but I really like that style, & have always stated the fact that it is W8 inspired. Anyway...
Hi ITACHI_U, I like the idea of your mock up too, it reminds me a bit of the PSVita store, when you're looking at a product. I haven't seen Steam, so cannot compare it to that. I also thought that maybe this could be a nice launch screen, enabling you to scroll through applications without having to back out to the main UI. Would you mind, when I have another spare evening, if I gave it a go?
My only point (playing Devils Advocate here - as all good designers do) is that if you had this as the main UI, and had a lot of games, you could be scrolling for a while until you get to where you want - but thats a tiny point really, everybody loves a bit of scrolling, especially if it could be done Parallax - like the new PS Store!
I would like to see an hours played feature added to Vita, gotta be easy enough as Nintendo managed it with 3DS.
I'd like to see the back of those bubbles and have a proper UI aimed at adults.
Bubbles aren't folders, folders are folders! :smileymad:
I'd settle for drawers or boxes or a cupboard or the back of a VW Transporter, or something, just...not...bubbles!!!
Nice mock ups and ideas btw both of you
It would be nice for it to have common features and look to the PS3/4 or maybe the option depending on which the user owns (or prefers)
Oh and the choice to change the system music. I don't spend much time at the menu screen so I just have it turned off now, but a choice is always nice.
Chances of us influencing the end product? probably slim but what the heck, no harm trying eh?
it's looks much better than what we have now.
the vita needs to move forward and not backwards ie the xmb ;)
