Error (SU-42118-6) when updating to 5.5?

Hi,

Does anyone know how to solve this? I've done all the usual troubleshooting steps. (Safemode, attempt from USB, etc)

Thanks in advance.

Basically, you are screwed. This is an attempt by Sony to force you to send in your PlayStation for repair if there is hardware malfunctioning, even if it wouldn't normally be an issue.

No form of installation will work for this error code, not even safe mode usb or a complete reinstallation. And no, no one is going to help you. Sorry.

Here's hoping mine is still under warranty. Also, is it possible a reformat will fix it?

Nope. Initializing will throw the same error code, and opening the PS4 and removing the harddrive will trigger the "tamper protection" in the hardware scan.

So if I already know that either my blu-ray drive makes noise or my fan is cracked and occasionally makes the noise (just replaced hdd to higher rpm and capacity and replaced thermal paste AND THEN played over 100+ hours so I know i did nothing wrong to that part of the ps4) then this new update is throwing an error BECAUSE OF A HARDWARE CHECK that is now in the updates.  CAN U SAY "CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT"15205480424551655598177.jpg

I have been thinking class action for some time now about this. I doubt anyone would have the balls to start it though.

First thing to do is, on your PS4;

(1) go to Notifications then
(2) press options and select Downloads
(3) Delete the system software update.

Ok, now that's gone, make sure you've not got any apps running, then;

(4) go to Settings/ system software update and try
(5) "update using internet"

I’m gonna try it. Did your PS4 randomly stop reading disks as well?

I have exactly the same issue. Was playing a game as normal, no mods, threw an error code and stopped reading or accepting discs entirely. I tried using the manual control screw to insert and eject discs to no avail.

Ive since bought my games digitally as an expensive workaround (I'm addicted to fallout) and downloaded them at a friend's house, along with this update. I came home tonight, set everything up and couldn't open fallout.

I figured it had something to do with this update, so installed it, restarted the system, and now I'm receiving this error code.

Ive no clue what to do.
