Someone managed to trip over my PS4 wires damaging the HDMI cable and probably unplugging the power cable. (I don't know the full details as no one is owning up to what happened). I've replaced the HDMI cable but when I turned on the PS4 it immediately entered and is stuck in safe mode.
The loop goes like so:
"Checking System Storage Status".
With a loading bar below. Once it's reached 100%
"Cannot start the PS4 connect the DUALSHOCK 4 using the USB cable and then press the PS button".
I do as instructed.
"Connect a USB storage device that contains an update file for reinstallation for version 6.02 or later".
I plug in the USB with installation version 6.20.
"The update file cannot be used connect a USB storage device that contains an update file for reinstallation for version 6.02 or later".
I press OK, and the process start all over again.
Is my only option now to reinitialise the PS4?
Which I assume will cause me to loose all of my games and saved game data.
Is there a way for me to backup my PS4's saved game data while stuck in this Safe Mode loop?
As I'd like to do so before trying the put the PS4 back to it's manufacturers state.
If it's asking for the reinstallation file, no, you can't salvage any data, it's beyond saving.
Reinstalling the system software is your only option.
I got exactly the same issue no idea whys is happened
Do you leave your PS4 in rest mode? I never do in case there's a power outage or a glitch or something@gWAKEYg
No Sony told me today that sometimes update files don't install properly for whatever reason..which ends up bricking the console..so annoying@gavsta72
Yeah, PS4's don't like to be unplugged, doing so seems to corrupt the data.
So I decided to take out the PS4s hard drive and I tried to take a look at the files by connecting it to a Linux PC with a disk caddy by SATA.
Turns out the format for the PS4 seems to be proprietary and apparently the files are encrypted so, in the end I had to admit defeat and reinstall the system software.
So I do now have a PS4 up and running again. But no saved game data.
In conclusion, I will be backing up my game files daily.
You can back up game save data to the icloud and set it to auto save I've read? So frustrating though. Spoke to Sony today and they told me only option is to select option 7. Initialise. I'm hoping somehow rockstar can link back my rdr2 game progress after
Ooh, sorry to hear that, I managed to loose 90 hours of game play on a particular game.
All I had left to do was fight the last boss... I'll be down about this for a while.
I am having the same exact issue. Every step you document is the same. The issue started when a friend turned on my PS4 and then seconds removed the power plug from the machine. I am assuming the system was trying to install an update and then was interrupted with the shut off. Have tried to troubleshoot but no solutions yet.
I'm trying to reinstall the system software & it's not letting me. It keeps saying unable to reinstall. When I try downloading the 6.20 update through the Ethernet cable it says it cannot connect to the system storage
