Then take a look below at this short guide, lovingly "borrowed" from https://www.playstation.com/en-gb/get-help/help-library/system---hardware/system-software/getting-st...
If you will be connecting your PlayStation 4 to the internet via a wired connection, you can now connect an Ethernet cable between the LAN port on the rear of the PlayStation 4 and your router or modem.
After turning on the PlayStation 4 for the first time, follow the on-screen instructions to:
Your PlayStation 4 is now ready to use.
Before you can access any online features of the PlayStation 4, the system software needs to be updated to the latest version. System software updates begin downloading automatically as soon as they are available, and an on-screen notification will inform you when it is ready to install.
To install the update, press up on the DUALSHOCK 4’s control pad to access the Function menu, then go to [Notifications] > [Downloads and highlight the System Software Update then press button.
On the next screen, choose ‘Next’ and then ‘Update’. The PlayStation 4 will now restart and begin installation. When the installation is complete, the PlayStation will restart again and you will be prompted to press the PS button on your controller. The PlayStation 4 system software update will now be complete.
If for any reason you encounter a problem, you can also download the update file to your computer manually and update the system software using a USB storage device.
Once your system software is up to date, you will be prompted to sign in to PlayStation Network. If you are already a PlayStation user upgrading to PlayStation 4, you can use your existing SEN account details to sign in.
If you are new to PlayStation, you can easily use your PlayStation 4 to create a SEN account. Once registered you will be able to add friends, earn trophies, purchase content from the PlayStation Store and, most importantly, start playing!
Insert the disc into the disc slot, and it will appear in the content area of the home screen. Once the initial install is complete, you will be able to start the game.
If an update file is available, this will begin downloading automatically as long as you are connected to the internet. Games must be updated to the latest version to allow access to any online functionality.
If you have purchased and started downloading a game from the PlayStation Store, this will appear in the content area of the home screen. You can start the game after a portion of the game data has been downloaded by highlighting the game on the home screen and pressing button, and any remaining data will continue to download in the background as you play the game. To check the progress of background downloads, highlight the game on the home screen and press the Options button on the DUALSHOCK 4, and then select [Information].
To be able to play online with your friends, as well as gain access to a variety of other benefits, you can subscribe to PlayStation Plus from only £4.17 a month.
To join PlayStation Plus or start your free 14 day trial through your PlayStation 4, press Up on the DUALSHOCK 4 control pad to access the Function menu and scroll left and press button on the PlayStation Plus icon, then select ‘Join PlayStation Plus’. You’ll also find information on the latest free games, deals and events in this area.

As I “main” mobile I thought this might be a “davum thread”
I ventured in anyway... to my awesome surprise it’s a Gina thread!
Thumbs up 👍
davum threads are the best. They are filled with lots of me and nobody else.@el-ve
Hey..! Calling us nobody is a bit harsh@davum
You know I love you Winnie.@WinnieP
That's why I try to keep away from them@davum
I appreciate the time and effort you put into this, but all of this information is available in the PS4 manual and on the PlayStation support site.
And yet people still ignore all of that info they have available and turn up here asking questions@waki_guy
True, but would it not save a lot of time and effort to simply point them in the right direction, i.e posting a link to the relevant support material that's already there (and made officially by Sony, no less)?@WinnieP
Sorry I didn't explain very well, you misunderstood :P You said that people still come here and ask questions right? So if they don't go through the effort of googling and finding the official Sony support page, what makes you think they're gonna find this forum post either?
So to save the effort, why not just link users who need it on a case by case basis.?
Trust me dude, lots of people come on here asking some very basic questions. So it's clear that they don't bother searching for answers, or if they do, allot of the time they get directed here.
Plus people probably have more confidence in answers on the Official PS forums as opposed to the hundreds of other websites out there with so called "experts"@waki_guy
That's my point, if they don't go searching for answers then they won't go searching for the answers in this forum post and therefore won't find this post, and will therefore ask all the same questions which are already answered in this post. So going back to my original point, you may as well just send links to the official support articles to each individual user.@gavsta72
Forum no currently work for me
I respond when its fix or in 15months, which ever happen first
