Just Sing is a new singing game from Ubisoft which was released on PS4 in September 2016. Coming from the same stable as ‘Just Dance’ it is a fun, family-friendly social game that allows you to lip-sync or sing along to a (currently limited) selection of songs, make fun videos and share them with your friends and the Just Sing community.
Easy to navigate
Fun video filters
Easy trophies (including a platinum)
Intuitive free app
Multiple hardware options (including free app)
No lag on playback… (take note SingStar!)
Long loading times
Limited selection of songs
Majority of songs are cover versions
No pitch bars
Server connection errors
Here’s my first impressions video of the game’s key features:
Gameplay is similar to other music/rhythm games in that you use a USB mic or your smartphone with the free app to sing along to a backing track. You score points for hitting the notes at the correct time and for the correct duration. It’s not clear how pitch relates to scoring as there are no pitch indicators in the game.
Scoring points awards you stars, and accumulating stars allows you to unlock game features such as songs and avatars as well as helping to obtain trophies.
During the game you will record a video of your performance, either via your Playstation camera, your smartphone, or a combination of both. You can apply a number of themes and filters to your video and even change these during the performance via the phone app. At the end of the song you can save your video, send it to a friend or upload it to the community. You can even choose to publish it just to your friends or any players who have joined your fan club.
Videos uploaded to the public gallery are available for around 2 weeks and you can show your appreciation through the use of the react button (think the Facebook like button) where you can like, love, laugh or shed a virtual tear at the beauty of it all.
Party mode allows you to sing with up to 4 players, whilst battle pits you one V one. A fun feature of battles is the 7 second taunt that you each record prior to the game and the winner’s gloating video at the end.
At present there is a limited range of songs available (partial tracklist below), as well as two Disney song packs in the store, packs currently cost £3.99 and £7.99.
“All About That Bass” – Meghan Trainor
“Drag Me Down” – One Direction
“What Do You Mean?” – Justin Bieber
“I Want To Break Free” – Queen
“Chandelier” – Sia
“Love Me Like You Do” – Ellie Goulding
“One More Night” – Maroon 5
“Radioactive” – Imagine Dragons
“Can’t Feel My Face”
“I Love Rock ‘N’ Roll”
“All Of Me”
“Baby One More Time”
“I Will Survive”
“Colors of the Wind”
“I Want You Back”
“Stand By Me”
“Take On Me”
Unfortunately at the time of writing, the in-game store isn’t working correctly and I have been unable to purchase the Disney song pack I’m coveting. Along the same lines I have also encountered a few server errors which have kicked me back to the main menu and some of the loading/encoding screens (particularly at the end of the song) are overly long.
Having said that, the game is a lot of fun, and it comes as a welcome breath of fresh air when support for SingStar has been extremely limited, with no updates or communication for months. If Ubisoft can keep the songs coming and foster the sense of community then this game really could be a winner.
Just Sing is available on the Playstation store for £29.99

Nice review @soozibags :)
Bung a few sackboys to accompany the Pros and Cons:
Add a few Store links at bottom of review for "games like this" kind of thing. Just to keep it in line with our other reviews and then I can add it in our directory if you like?
As for SingStar and no news for months. If I had any I would let the folks on the SingStar FB\Twitter and our Forum know, but honestly I have no new updates to give. It will just be me repeating what has already been said months ago.
Thanks Rossy :)@LordRoss
Watching the video (which btw is a great combination with teh written text review)
Not sure I can cope without knowing if I'm going too high or too low. I'm a rubbish singer and it seems this wont help the likes of me.
Also, cats effects and whatnot, is that not off putting at all? lol
I do really like the two different camera angles you had going on by using the phone app. That's pretty nifty!
Although was hoping to hear you sing that Celine Dion song lol.
Can't go wrong with Disney songs tbh. One of my fav SingStar discs is SingStar Disney, so the Disney songs on Just Sing seems rather appealing to me.
Good cameo from @jamseyhunt too singing It's Raining Men
Great review though @soozibags. I agree with a lot that's been said but I don't think it's really a keeper for me now that I've got all the trophies. I didn't think cover songs would bother me so much but with the limited song choice it's hard for me to recommend SingStar users to make the move over to it just yet. It'll be interesting to see what updates will come out for it and if there'll be further Just Sing titles in future.
The online connectivity of it all can be rather frustrating and the loading times too.
The filters for the videos are fun though and it's good to see SingStar get some competition. Whether that amounts to that game dying out or getting a kick up the backside & coming out with more frequent updates has yet to be determined I guess.@LordRoss
