People looking for a thread about robots turn away now.

Others join in.

First off i have a couple of questions.

Without rooting is there anyway to take screenshots?

Can you change phone contacts to google contacts without re-creating? I imported them from outlook and it makes them phone contacts which obvious don't sync with google servers.

Which apps do you recommend?

So far my most useful  apps are.

Taskiller free.

Astro filemanager

layar

orange wednesdays (for cinema 2 for 1)

speedtest

XDA-developers

Wavesecure

traintimes UK

Beebplayer

Never really liked animated wallpapers, they distract me from focusing on the icons, text etc. and they can also be a battery ***** unless they're used efficiently (E.G not always running in the background, it stops moving when you're in another app)

Plus the kernal on it is overclockable too! That's the only reason I use it (and tethering too) over MoCaDo 2.1 which I was using before.

Sorry for the double post, can't edit my old one, but Antho, VillainROM 12.0.0 is out now, you'd be wise to wipe and update to it

Convert all your contacts to Google contacts and then sync them with your Google account, then when you flash on a new ROM and log-in, they automatically sync over.

Just installed 12.0, tbh, there doesn't seem to be much of a speed increase at all atm.
Edit: And it keeps force closing background google apps. All the time... This update doesn't seem that great atm :P

Tethering worked on mocado when I tried it, you talking about wifi?

Im glad i ignored the engadget and gizmodo reviews of the htc hero and got one, I remember them and every other apple related blog said it was a decent try but a heap of junk..

Got one on pre-order before any carriers were selling it, and never looked back. It goes to show how un-reliable these self called "high tier gadget" sites are.

Did you download OverclockWidget to change your frequencies? VR 12 supports up to 748MHz but the highest I can push it before it gets unstable is 691Mhz.

I'm thinking about getting a htc wildfire on contract or sim free, does anyone have one here? I also got a couple of questions.

Is 1gb monthly data allowance enough for just randomly browsing the web etc...
Is the app market as good as iphone + are they free?
What would be the best network provider out of vodafone, t mobile, o2?

If i decide to get it sim free will that mean that i have unlimited internet provided there is a wifi connection?

Thank you in advance for your time and answering the questions :P.

  1. If you're just web-browsing then 1GB will be plenty.
  2. The App store isn't quite as good as the Apple one, no. It's improving all the time, and there are a lot more free apps, but quality varies a lot on the Android market.
  3. Vodafone probably have the best 3G coverage out of those 3 followed by T-Mobile, however I'm with O2 and don't have any issues with them at all.

Whether you buy it SIM free or on a contract, by using WiFi you 1GB data cap won't apply so if you've unlimited internet on the WiFi you're using you'll have unlimited on your phone.

Be aware however that the resolution of the screen on the Wildfire might prove an issue, some apps won't be compatible with it due to it only being 240x320, though the only app that immediately springs to mind is the Endgadget one, it won't work and there'll probably be others too.

Moghal, do NOT get a Wildfire, it's the worst HTC Sense phone I've seen yet. The home buttons are all touch sensitive, so you accidentally press them all the time. The resolution is far too small, so a lot of apps get cropped off the sides, the Screen quality is terrible.

I hate it, I've used one for past 2 days from my friend, and I hate it. Get something better, such as Desire. You'll regret getting the Wildfire. hope I helped.

lol ok you kind of put me in doubts now lol. Basically i want to get a smartphone and i thought the htc wildfire was a budget one of the desire. I want to get a cheap contract as well as i won't be a 24/7 user of the mobile.

That price is quite steep. I've seen a sim free wildfire for £230 and the cheapest contract i could find is like £10.

Basically i need a new phone and i hardly know anything about mobiles. I thought that the next phone i should get should be a smartphone as they can do everything and one which is cheap and the wildfire fit the description.
