Tuesday the 6th of September, 2 days prior to the invasion of Resistance 3 onto the shelves of retailers and homes nationwide a small group of infiltrators were lucky to be invited to PlayStation HQ to gather exclusive Intel on the forthcoming Chimera Invasion from the games writer Jon Paquette.

The night began with the fortunate few gathering outside the PlayStation® Head Office and it was good to see a mix of old faces (djsideways, miteylfc & Timesplitter) and new ones including two young gentlemen that had flown up from Melbourne just for the event.

At 18:30 we were ushered inside and as we entered, we saw scattered thought-out there where Resistance 3 branded consoles, TV, Sharpshooters and Resistance 3 propaganda. This helped everyone to become even more entangled into the world of Resistance3 and for the night that awaited us. Once everyone had arrived we were shown into the main presentation area were we would be given exclusive insight in to the development of this latest instalment of the resistance series along with a few spoilers of what was to come.

One of the highlights of the presentation was when Jon Paquette decided to demonstrate the game to everyone and after selecting “Easy” for the difficulty (much to the cry’s of ‘noob’ and other such jeers from the crowd) he proceeded to show us some of the things that had changed from the previous game, including the return of the weapons wheel from original Resistance game and some of the new weapons upgrades included incendiary shells for the Rossmore shotgun (which basically turns it into a one hit kill for against standard Chimera).

Something that was great to see from my own personal perspective was the evolution of the storyline, Humans have basically lost the war and only survived in rag tag resistance groups, the Chimera no longer cared about converting Humans and that they were working on a what could be seen as a final effort to rid the world of humans once and for all and just to add in an additional twist to the story some Chimera had turned feral and had started to attack their own creating a 3rd (and somewhat unpredictable) element to the game play.

After hearing all this and seeing part of it played out on the big screen it was fair to say that all in attendance were impressed with what they had seen and were keen to get their hands on a controller and start playing.

Luckily enough that exactly what happened next, once the presentation was over and a certain community member got a hug from Jon Paquette (True Story) we were all invited back out to the main foyer area to finally get some hands on time with the game. As everyone huddled around the consoles and started to play it was easy to see that people were enjoying themselves. Some lucky community members even go to play on the 4 meter wide HD big screen in the board room with full surround sound (and a fully stocked fridge :smileywink: )

As people played Jon Paquette circulated though the crowd allowing them the opportunity to ask what they had thought of the game so far and answers any questions that they might have had about Resistance 3 or any of the other titles that he has worked on over the years such as the Medal of Honour series. He was also kind enough to sign a few peoples gaming memorabilia and a ton of posters for everyone to take home (which were included in everyone’s goodie bags at the end of the night.)

As with all good things, they must eventually come to an end and as the as the night wound down and the community left with their goodie bags (containing an awesome Resistance 3 T-shirt, Sticker and one of the aforementioned signed posters) it was great to hear all the positive discussion about the game and that people had enjoyed themselves.

A big thank you to all that had attended the event, hope you all had a great time and I look forward to seeing you at the next event.

Until then, see you online,

Cheers

It was a great night at the Resi 3 Event.

It was good to meet up with some guys from the Forum, including the MODS, and some SONY workers from past events.

Was good to see Jon Paquette show us through some of the game (Even though he was playing on the Easy level, as Fury stated above)

There was so much pizza, beers & soft drinks, and for once we controlled ourselves and just concentrated on playing the game.

The Resi 3 Skins were hot, but they only fit the Slim models.

Love the game and had pre-ordered it before that night and have enjoyed playing some online games with a few people from these forums.

Sorry Fury for the late entry to this topic, i did promise you I would comment on the night :)
