which ISP?

Hi there,

I'm at the point where I can change my ISP and was wondering which has the fastest upload speed. At the moment I'm on Virgin 20Mb and can host max 12 players.

I'd like to host games capable of having more players and was wondering if anyone out there has a good gaming ISP.

I heard that "be" is quite fast, but not sure how good the service is.

cheers!

I think be's top package can give you a 2.5MB upload. That should allow 20-24 hosting. I'm not 100% sure on that, but it's there or threabouts. Other than that, O2 seems to be the best option on hosting, around 1.3Mb upload giving you 16.

the thing to remember with leavin virgin is that you dont always get a great dl speed! im with virgin an i hate my crappy upload but i have a 20mg dl connecction, if i went with be or 02 because of the distance fron the server (only 5 miles) the maximum dl i will get it 5mg on a good day

so you need to figure out how much u will get from be or 02 an work out if its really worth loosin dl to gain ul... i have o2 mobiles an the cs on them is second to none so if there broadband is the same then they'd be good. plus movin from virgin to another supplier you also need a bt phone so you have the line rental cost on top of that an the instalation cost (presumin u have a virgin phone line)

o2 broadband with 1.6 upload is £20 pm

bt phone line with no add on's is £10.50 pm

Hey thanks for that. Yes I've a virgin phone, tv and broadband, but I think I'm going to shop around for a better deal. I'm not that bothered about massive download speed, it's the upload I'm interested in.

If it's worth it, I'd rather go back to my BT phone anyway.

All in all, plenty to mull over...

christ I can log in again at last! well here's the text  :- You are approximately 931 metres from the exchange

that sounds pretty close to me. it will mean an upheaval of my system and prolly have to go offline for a few weeks, but I reckon it'll be worth it.
